About Clarion

The Clarion Writer’s Workshop is an annual residential workshop that takes place over the summer on the campus of UCSD in La Jolla, California. For information about the workshop and Clarion, see the resources page.

Some of the students of the Class of 2013 have written about their experiences. For example, Isabel has written several blog posts about Clarion, including some useful tips if you're thinking of applying or if you’ve been accepted. Marie has also written a lot about Clarion, including this helpful post about going to a workshop. And Angus wrote about his initial impressions of Clarion during the first weeks of the workshop.

About this website

The cartoon images on the site are mostly by Isabel, and were originally drawn on the classroom blackboard in response to some of the stories that we critiqued during the workshop. For example, the pumpkin-headed baby was inspired by Will’s story ”October’s Son”. The crow was suggested by Alyssa’s “Scarecrow”. Other stories illustrated here have yet to see the light of day. The “Clarion 2013” banner was designed by Eliza.

This website was built by Angus using the Eleventy static site generator. The dark/light theme toggle is by Alfie Jones. The font used on the site is Mona Sans.
